The Last Days of Postscript Type 1
As the saying goes, "all good things must come to an end," and soon, that will apply to the venerable Postscript Type 1 font. The desktop publishing revolution couldn't have happened without it! Adobe is ending support for T1 fonts in January 2023.
What does that mean? It means we are switching away from them for our printed pieces and using Adobe Fonts, which is part of the Creative Cloud suite of software and services.
The best part is that it's relatively seamless, and you'll never have a font availability issue again. InDesign can auto-activate the needed fonts, although this feature is disabled by default. To turn it on, click InDesign Preferences -> File Handling and tick the box at the bottom where it says "Auto-activate Adobe Fonts." That's it!
If you'd like to know more about this process or prefer to control the font activation yourself, you can visit this Adobe help page for more information.
As always, reach out to us if you have any questions or problems, and we'll be happy to assist.
